Welcome to My Personal Page
Thank you for your consideration in sponsoring me for the Cycle of Life Tour.
Hard to believe that this is my 4th Cycle of Life Tour in support of Hospice. Hospice has a special place in my heart, especially considering the immense support it provided in my life during the final days of a family member. The ride was an awesome opportunity to experience the spirit of people raising funding to help support Vancouver Island Hospices. I learned that Hospice care relies largely on funding by community donors and fundraising events. All funds raised on this ride go towards Hospices on Vancouver Island.
Over the past 3 years I have had the privilege of meeting many people who work at a Hospice. Last year I met a person who had lost their son to cancer. Afterwards this person was in a very dark world. Who wouldn't be? Hospice counsellors helped this person crawl out out of bed and begin living their life again while still very much missing their son tremendously.
Two years ago as we peddled along the 200 km ride, one conversation in particular stood out. I commented to a fellow rider who happened to work as a Hospice nurse about how difficult it must be to have job where there is no possible opportunity for survival. She said "We know that our role is to try and make the best of a difficult situation for the patient and their family. Even little things like if our patient wants to go outside to see the sun rise, we make it happen. If they want to see the sun set we'll arrange it." Her response came from the heart, and you could tell how important her career was and it was all about helping people.
This year I'm riding to support a service that employs extraordinary people doing extraordinary work. I know that there are a number of deserving causes that you are asked to support, but please think of the Vancouver Island Hospices. Thank you for considering this request! Nothing is expected and any donation is truly appreciated.
Our ride this year is July 28 and 29th, and I hope to raise over $1500 before the ride starts.
